Concrete resurfacing gives old concrete a new look. If you’re tired of looking at a lackluster concrete patio, cracked driveway, or discolored garage floor, chances are you can restore and resurface existing concrete, without having to replace it. Our trained team and experts on hand can help you find the concrete resurfacing products that work best for your project.
What Are the Options for Concrete Resurfacing?
Virtually any concrete surface can be resurfaced, including driveways, patios, walkways, and pool decks. Outdoor concrete resurfacing options include a variety of products and processes that result in better-looking concrete surfaces without having to tear down an existing patio or driveway and re-pour the concrete, which can be time-consuming and expensive.
Complete Concrete Resurfacing
This process involves using a grinder to remove the entire top surface of the concrete slab. If your patio, driveway, or garage floor has severe cracks or potholes that you can’t fix with spackle or crack filler, this is likely your best option. It’s a long-term solution that can help completely change the look of your concrete surface, but it’s also the most time-consuming and most expensive in terms of concrete resurfacing cost.
Concrete Overlays and Microtoppings
A concrete overlay is the application of a thin layer of modified cement or polymer over existing concrete to improve the look of a concrete surface. Once the overlay is applied, it can be stamped, stained, or stenciled to mimic the look of brick, slate, or stone. When you need to resurface a concrete driveway but don’t want to remove the entire top layer, a concrete overlay is a good option.
Epoxy Resin Coating
Renewing concrete surfaces on driveways or garage floors with an epoxy resin coating is a very popular option. It can even be used over new concrete for decorative benefits.
Sealing
Applying a good quality sealer to concrete is a good way to avoid having to completely renew a concrete patio through the process of resurfacing the concrete. Sealer comes in different colors, so you can do that upgrade if you want, and at the same time it will protect the concrete from weather, sunlight, and cracks. We recommend sealing all exterior concrete surfaces to prevent damage.
Painting
As mentioned above, you can paint your concrete slab instead of refinishing it if it doesn’t have a lot of large cracks or chips. However, paint doesn’t last as long as other options for refinishing concrete slabs.
